Setting up the VML Player in Sharepoint
This article shows how to install and use the VML Player in Microsoft SharePoint Online.
Installing the VML Player SharePoint App
After you download the VML Player SharePoint application, follow the steps outlined below to install it:
Only a SharePoint Administrator or Global Administrator in Microsoft 365 is able to install custom applications to your SharePoint platform. The following steps, require SharePoint Admin access.
- In your SharePoint Admin Center, navigate to "More Features" on the left panel.
- In the "Apps" section, click on "Open" to view the list of applications installed in your SharePoint Platform.
- The "Manage apps" screen opens, here click on the “Upload“ button. Browse the downloaded VML Player SharePoint app named "vml-player-share-point-web-part.sppkg"
- Review the info in the “Enable app“ panel. Enable this app and add it to all sites. Currently The "Teams" option isn’t supported by the application. Tick off the "Add to Teams" option.
- Click the "Enable app" button.
- Click "Close".
- In the list of apps, ensure the Enabled checkbox is selected so that users are able to add this app to SharePoint sites.
- That’s it! Your users can now use the VML Player application on all sites in SharePoint.
Add VML Player to your SharePoint site
Once you’ve installed and enabled the VML Player SharePoint app in your SharePoint Admin, you can start adding the VML Player to your SharePoint site. Follow these steps to add the VML Player to your SharePoint site.
- In your SharePoint site, click on "+ New" button to create a new page.
- Select the "Page" option from the dropdown menu.
- Choose a template or pick the Blank option in the Page templates page.
- Once you’ve selected a template, click on "Create page".
- The new page will open. You can start adding content at this stage. To add the VML Player to your page, hover on the section of the page you wish to add the VML Player to.
- Click on the + icon to add a web part to your page, a panel with various options opens up.
- Choose or search "VML Player". If you can’t find the "VML Player" app after searching, check with your SharePoint Admin that the VML Player application is installed and enabled to use on your page (See previous section: "Installing VML Player SharePoint App").
- First thing we need to do to preview the VML Player, is adding a valid Project ID. Click on the "Edit Web part" icon on the left side of the web part.
- The Configuration Pane opens on the right. In here, paste the VML Project ID provided by the VML Team or VML Studio.
- Click "Apply" to apply the change.
- The VML Player will show the Project with the matching VML Project ID.
- Commit your changes to the page by clicking "Save as draft". Alternatively you can publish your page by clicking "Publish".
